All About Assam Tea
Asam Tea is a black tea hailing from the Assam region in north-east India, crafted from hand-picked tea leaves that undergo drying and oxidation in open-air containers. This globally celebrated tea is distinguished by its bold flavour and deep red-brown hue.
Assam experiences three flushes or picking seasons a year: the Spring Flush, Monsoon Flush, and Autumn Flush, with the latter marking the final harvest before the tea plants go into hibernation. This season is considered by tea brewers to be the ultimate pick, offering a slow growth rate resulting in richer, more balanced, and full-bodied flavours.
Our partnership with The Tingrai Tea Estate in Assam is headed by fourth-generation tea grower Avantika Jalan, who prioritises sustainable farming practices for both soil and plant health. By working together, we are able to bring the exceptional taste of Asam Tea to heart of our Jeeves & Jericho chai.
